We went out of Fresh Water City below Kapplin. We were 52 miles South; around rig block 222. We were in 102 foot of water to a hard bottom, the murk layer was 15 ft on the surface and 10 ft deep on the bottom. ( the murk is a dark murky layer of a different temp and water clarity . It's mostly a zero viz thing). Most of our fish were shot around 50ft. It was crystal clear, and you could see 60 ft down and several hundred outside of the rig. (where the sharks hang out! )
Mark Smith is the blond head guy and is an instructor...my instructor...the instructor. He's the local commercial diver and a good guy. The curly head fellow is Brady Martinez, former combat medic, a divemaster and a damn good fisherman! You know Mat Dozier. He slept late, slept on the way out and slept on the way in. And shot some good fish. And the other guy is Steve, a new diver on a mission to watch and learn. He'll get a gun on the next trip. Then there was me.
We shot some nice fish. The Red Snappers all were around 17 to 20 lbs and the Mangrove snappers were around 8 to 9 lbs. The grey, round fish are Queen Trigger fish and really are good, and they bite hard! (From experience!)

Great pics! Last time I was Scuba diving outside of Panama City in the Gulf we had a couple spearfishermen who shot a couple amber jacks while we were wreck diving. Looks like a great trip, thanks for posting! _________________ Beware the fury of a patient man... |
